Getting Started

In this 4 part series, we will be guiding you through the process of launching a WordPress website with the CloudCanvas platform. By the end of the series, you will have a fully functioning WordPress website that you can use for anything from a personal blog to a complex eCommerce website.

Picking a plan

The first step is to pick a plan that meets your needs if you want to get started without spending anything you can pick the trial plan at this stage. The trial gives you 14 days free use of CloudCanvas on a Cover page plan, you can publish up to 2 pages, posts and portfolio projects. Don’t worry you can upgrade from the Cover page plan after if you want to just use it for the free trial.

You will need to enter a few basic details to get started with your website, we have marked the information in the screenshot below and will explain what each field is for.

Plans CloudCanvas Websites

1. Username: This is your personal username, as you are setting the site up you will be the site administrator. You can add many different users with different roles so make sure you give yourself a unique and memorable username.

2. Email Address: Make sure you enter a valid email address that you have access to as the site details will be sent to it. You can change this in the future.

3. Your Site Temporary Domain: All sites start off with a temporary domain name, this way you can start working on your site instantly even before buying your own domain. This also allows you to build your site on CloudCanvas and test it before adding your main domain name. Best practise is to enter your business name here.

4. Site Title: This is your main site title, you can change this in the future but you can use your business name here.

5. Site Admin Language: You can pick the site admin language here, we currently support English, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Welsh and Spanish. If you want a language that isn’t listed please contact us or start your site in English and we will add your language later.

You will be given a link in your CloudCanvas confirmation email that you can use to view your new website even without a domain name, this will be your temporary domain and can be used until you add a domain of your own. Your new CloudCanvas website will contain some sample pages, posts and layouts to get you started and familiar with the page builder and settings.

Domains can be registered from many places, you can register a domain name with our parent company on our domains, email and security site. If you purchase or transfer domain name from Lakewood we will set up your domain with CloudCanvas and also provide you with a free SSL certificate for your CloudCanvas website.

Type the domain you wish to register in the search form, don’t know what extension you want? Just type the name without an extension to get a list of various available extensions including .com and

Select a domain from the list of available or try searching again if you can’t find the domain you want, many .com domains will be taken. Try searching with some of the new extensions available such as .events .training .school and many more. View a list of all domain extensions and prices here.

Add domain to basket

Click ‘Select’ to add your domain to the car, you will also be notified of any other similar domains or discounts available. Next click ‘Checkout’ to proceed to the checkout.


Purchase your domain

You can now proceed to create an account and pay for your domain. Click ‘Create an account’, please ensure you enter your details correctly as they will be used as contact details for the domain and are required to be up to date.

Once you have created an account you can check the PayPal option and pay, you don’t need a PayPal account to checkout with the PayPal option, you can also check out with just a card.


Map your domain to CloudCanvas

After you have received a confirmation email you can submit a support ticket to have your domain added to your CloudCanvas site and we will also add an SSL certificate and activate HTTPS on your site for an extra layer of security.

Your CloudCanvas website will start off with a default logo and colour scheme that you can change for your own branding. In this guide, we will go over the steps required to quickly change your brand logo and set some default brand colours on your CloudCanvas website. We will assume you already have a logo ready, we suggest you use a PNG image or SVG (using an SVG will require enabling the SVG support plugin first).

To change the branding on your site you will have to log into your CloudCanvas website dashboard. See this article if you haven’t logged into your site before.

Once logged in open the main menu and select ‘Design Settings’ and then ‘Theme Options’. You will notice the first option is the logo, this will currently have the default logo in place. No need to click ‘Reset’ you can click ‘Upload’. You can now upload your logo to the media or select one you have uploaded previously.

Most image sizes will work although some may work better with different menu layouts. We recommend a max width of 790px, you should also ensure your image has been correctly compressed before uploading. We suggest uploading your image to, read our article on image compression for more tips.

You can also set your brand colours here for easy use with the page builder, once the logo is set and your brand colours are picked you can save the Theme Options.
